Arteta Unfazed by Contract Talks Ahead of City Clash

Mikel Arteta is walking into the new season with Manchester City on the horizon and contract questions swirling around him – and he looks completely unmoved by the noise.

Back in May, co-chairman Josh Kroenke made it clear that tying down the Spaniard to a new deal was high on the club’s to-do list. The extension has not yet landed, the curtain-raiser against City is almost here in Cardiff, and the obvious question followed Arteta into his pre-match press conference.

He batted it away with ease.

"They [the fans] don't have to worry about any of that, because I want to be here. I am extremely happy," he said, cutting straight to the point. "I feel very grateful to work with the people that I work with and when we have the possibility, we will resolve that. And that's it."

No hint of agitation. No suggestion of a stand-off. Just a manager who knows where he wants to be.

For Arteta, the real battle right now is not across the negotiating table but in the transfer market. That, he stressed, is where the club’s energy is going.

"There is always another priority, I think!" he said with a smile. "And that's the way we have been treating it, I think because everybody feels comfortable that the time on the contract is not going to be an issue."

The message is clear: squad building first, signatures later.

Arteta also moved to reinforce the idea that he and the club’s hierarchy are pulling in exactly the same direction, brushing away any hint of friction behind the scenes.

"I think because my will, certainly, is to be here and I am very happy here. My feeling from the club is the same one," he explained. "That is why everyone is doing things in a really organic way."

So while the outside world wonders when pen will finally meet paper, Arteta’s gaze is fixed on City, on Cardiff, and on a season that could define the next phase of his project. The contract can wait; the performance cannot.
