Defence: Konsa waiting in the wings
Cristhian Mosquera’s withdrawal against Aston Villa on Monday was described as precautionary, but it has opened a door. Arteta is considering adding extra know-how to his back line, and Ezri Konsa is right at the front of that conversation.
The summer signing is in line for his full Premier League debut in an Arsenal shirt, potentially partnering Gabriel at centre-back. With Chelsea’s forwards already in stride, Arteta may decide this is not the night to take unnecessary risks at the heart of his defence.
Timber and Saliba remain out, so any change will be about balance rather than rotation for rotation’s sake.
Midfield riches and one harsh call

Wide threats and a big call on the left
Up front, the picture is less clear-cut.
Christos Tzolis struggled to impose himself against Villa, a rare off-night in an attack that has otherwise looked sharp. Eberechi Eze, by contrast, changed the feel of the game after coming on at half-time, demanding the ball and asking questions of tired legs.
That contrast has put real pressure on Tzolis’ starting spot. Arteta must decide whether to reward Eze’s influence from the bench or stick with continuity in a game that already carries a big-game edge.
On the right, there is no debate. Bukayo Saka has opened the campaign in confident mood and now chases a third consecutive match with a goal. Chelsea know exactly what’s coming down that flank. Stopping it is another matter.
Havertz holds his place
Through the middle, Viktor Gyokeres is still waiting for his first Premier League minute of the season. This does not look like the night that changes.
Arteta has consistently turned to Kai Havertz for the biggest occasions, trusting the German’s movement, pressing and understanding of the manager’s demands. All signs point to that pattern continuing here, with Gyokeres again named among the substitutes.
