Arteta Secures New Deal with Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has reached agreement on an improved new contract with Premier League champions Arsenal, cementing a partnership that has reshaped the club since his arrival in December 2019.

The Spaniard’s existing deal was due to expire at the end of this season, and negotiations have been running quietly in the background for months. BBC Sport revealed earlier in the month that all sides were close to a breakthrough. That breakthrough has now arrived.

Arteta has finalised terms with the club to extend his stay, a move that will carry him into at least his 10th year in charge at Emirates Stadium. The deal reflects that status. Arteta will receive a significant pay rise on his current £10m-a-year salary, with the new contract also including an uplift on the £5m in bonuses he already commands. “They [the fans] don't have to worry about any of that because I want to be here. I'm extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with,” he said.
