Arsenal Pursue Victor Osimhen on Their Terms

Arsenal are pushing hard for Victor Osimhen – but only on their terms.

The Premier League club want the Galatasaray striker to cut his wage demands before they will sign off on a move to the Emirates, with the transfer window ticking towards its close.

Arteta’s search for a striker

Mikel Arteta has made a new centre-forward a priority. Arsenal tried and failed to tempt Atletico Madrid into selling Julian Alvarez, and the Argentine is understood to favour Barcelona over a Premier League return. That door has all but slammed shut.

So attention has turned fully to Osimhen, the Nigeria international who has started the season in Turkey in ruthless form.

According to FootMercato, Arsenal have already held direct talks over a deal and are prepared to commit to the player – but not at any price. The London club are refusing to table what they see as an excessive contract, leaving the move resting on one key question: how far is Osimhen willing to climb down on his salary?

The wage wall

Osimhen, 27, earns more than €20 million (£17.1m) per year at Galatasaray. That level puts him in a bracket Arsenal are not ready to match, even for a player they believe could transform their attack.

The money is only half the battle.

Galatasaray’s stance

Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek has been blunt: Osimhen is not for sale. The Turkish champions have already backed that up with action, turning down a €130 million (£111m) offer from Al-Hilal earlier this month.

That rejection sent a clear message to the market. If a Saudi Pro League giant with deep pockets cannot break Galatasaray’s resolve, any club from Europe will have to be both persuasive and creative.

Al-Hilal then moved on to Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, only to see a £45 million bid knocked back as well. Across Europe, top strikers are locked in, and clubs are digging in their heels.

Osimhen, though, remains the one Arsenal want.

Form that fuels the chase

While speculation swirls, Osimhen is doing what he does best: scoring.

He struck twice and added an assist in Galatasaray’s 4-0 win at Erzurumspor on Friday, a performance that underlined his status as the spearhead of the champions’ attack. Before that, he had already hit a brace in a 2-2 draw with Corum FK.

Those numbers strengthen Galatasaray’s position. They also sharpen Arsenal’s need. Every goal he scores in Turkey makes him more valuable, more essential, and possibly more expensive.

The decision ahead

For now, Osimhen is expected to keep leading the line for Galatasaray, with the club adamant he stays and Arsenal refusing to shatter their wage structure.

Something has to give: the player’s demands, the club’s resistance, or Arsenal’s financial ceiling.

The clock is ticking on all three.
