Arsenal Pursue Victor Osimhen in Summer Transfer Talks
Arsenal have opened talks over a blockbuster move for Victor Osimhen in the final weeks of the summer window – a transfer that would send a jolt through the Premier League title race.
Mikel Arteta’s search for a new No.9 has never really gone away. Gabriel Jesus continues to be nudged towards the exit, and while Viktor Gyokeres showed enough in Arsenal’s title-winning campaign to hint at a 20-goal-a-season future – 21 goals in 55 games across all competitions – the feeling inside the club is clear: they want something even more ruthless leading the line.
Osimhen Enters the Frame
For weeks, Arsenal’s striker chase has been framed around Julian Alvarez. The Gunners have been circling the Atletico Madrid forward, testing the waters, hoping a deal might open up. It hasn’t. Atletico have dug in. They have already brushed off interest from Real Madrid and rejected a €100m (£86.7m) offer from Barcelona. They are not blinking.
So Arsenal have turned their gaze elsewhere – and landed on one of Europe’s most prolific finishers.
According to The Telegraph, the club have held discussions over Victor Osimhen with Galatasaray, with the Nigerian now firmly on their radar. His name has come up during wider talks between the two clubs involving Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri.
Osimhen’s path to this point has already brushed close to the Premier League. Two years ago, Chelsea held advanced talks with Napoli to bring him to Stamford Bridge. The deal never happened. Instead, the striker joined Galatasaray on an initial loan, a move that became permanent last summer for €75m (£64.8m).
Galatasaray have been rewarded handsomely. Osimhen has powered them to back-to-back league titles, scoring 59 goals in 74 games. Across his club career, the 27-year-old has racked up 173 goals in 297 appearances – numbers that scream elite No.9.
This time, Arsenal are listening. The report claims Osimhen is open to a move to north London, with a potential deal gathering momentum as sporting director Andrea Berta’s plans start to take shape.
A Deal Built on Leverage
Where the Alvarez pursuit has hit a wall, Arsenal sense an opening with Galatasaray.
The Turkish champions are pushing hard for Gabriel Martinelli. They have already lodged a €45m (£38.4m) bid for the Brazilian, whose future has become a talking point despite his importance to Arteta’s squad. One major complication: Martinelli is understood not to be overly enthusiastic about a switch to the Turkish league, a stance that could slow or even stall that part of the negotiations.
Arsenal have also put Ethan Nwaneri on the table. The 19-year-old, fresh from an impressive loan spell at Marseille, has reportedly been offered to Galatasaray for €40m (£34.1m). Talks over Nwaneri are said to be progressing between the clubs, adding another lever in what is fast becoming a multi-layered negotiation.
In the middle of it all sits Osimhen.
Two years ago, Arsenal had the chance to move for him and passed, wary that Napoli’s demands would soar beyond their comfort zone. Now the landscape is different. Galatasaray are open to business, Arsenal have players the Turkish side covet, and the striker himself is prepared to consider a Premier League leap.
If the Gunners can turn that alignment into a deal, they won’t just be adding goals. They’ll be arming a title-winning side with a centre-forward built for chaos, power and penalty-box ruthlessness – and asking every rival a blunt question: how do you keep pace with that?
