Alyssa Thompson Named Player of the Match in Chelsea's 3-0 Victory

Alyssa Thompson has been voted Player of the Match after lighting up Chelsea’s 3-0 win in Sydney, capping a successful pre-season tour of New Zealand and Australia.

The USA international was at the heart of the attacking surge, directly involved in the first two goals. Sandy Baltimore struck the opener, Sjoeke Nusken added the second, and Thompson’s sharp movement and creativity helped carve both chances open as Chelsea took control.

She never really eased off. Thompson stretched the Sydney defence throughout, driving at full-backs, demanding the ball, forcing mistakes. The pressure told, and the game tilted firmly Chelsea’s way long before the final whistle.

Lexi Potter then stepped up to add the third, rounding off the scoring and the tour in style.

The vote on the Chelsea Official App reflected just how many players impressed. Thompson edged it with 29 per cent in what was described as an incredibly tight poll. Baltimore, on the back of her composed finish for the opener, claimed 27 per cent, while Potter’s clinical third earned her 23 per cent.

On a night full of attacking options, it was Thompson who took the spotlight.
