Those numbers turn the condition into a challenge he knows well rather than an impossible hurdle. Reach the mark again, and the path out of the Metropolitano suddenly looks far less obstructed.

Barcelona, on the surface, can afford to ignore the drama for now. They have exploded out of the blocks, tearing through defences as Europe’s most prolific side, powered by the ruthless form of Raphinha and Lamine Yamal on the wings. Goals are flowing, confidence is high.

But seasons are long. Legs get heavy. Form dips.

An attack so heavily reliant on two wide men lives on a knife-edge. One poorly timed injury to Raphinha or Yamal and the entire attacking structure could wobble.
