Alejandro Balde Stands Firm Amid Transfer Speculations
Alejandro Balde is standing his ground.
Dropped from Barcelona’s travelling squad for the opening game against Elche and openly mentioned as a possible departure, the 22-year-old suddenly finds himself in a fight he has not really known since breaking into the first team. The club are listening to offers. The coach has alternatives. The market clock is ticking.
And Balde? He is not ready to walk away.
Balde refuses to back down
Manchester United have emerged as admirers, but only for a loan. Barcelona, for their part, are only willing to discuss a permanent transfer. That gap in intentions sums up the standoff around the left-back: plenty of interest, but no move that satisfies all sides.
According to journalist Alex Pintanel, Balde still believes he can win over Hansi Flick. Being left out against Elche hurt his status, but not his conviction. He thinks training ground work and performances, not a change of scenery, should decide his future.
So his position is sharp and simple. He will listen if a truly compelling proposal lands on the table. He will not force the issue just because his role is suddenly less secure.
At 22, he can afford that kind of bet. He has the pace, the legs and the ceiling to trust that a manager’s opinion can be shifted.
Barça open the door – but only on their terms
The club’s stance is cooler, more pragmatic.
Barcelona are open to studying offers as they reshape the defence and weigh late-window business. They will not, though, rush him out of the door just to clear space. Any sale has to meet their valuation, or Balde stays.
With roughly a week left in the window, that is a hard deal to pull off. Building a defensive plan around a player and simultaneously treating him as a potential sale is a delicate balance, and time is running out to square it.
New competition, new reality
What has really changed for Balde is the landscape around him.
Hansi Flick has options. Joao Cancelo can flip to the left. Gerard Martin is in the frame. The coach has already shown he is happy to tweak and twist his back line depending on the opponent rather than locking in a fixed hierarchy.
La Masia has added more pressure. Jordi Pesquer’s emergence in pre-season has complicated the picture, giving Flick another young, hungry full-back to consider. Against Elche, the German went a step further and tried Xavi Espart at left-back. The teenager handled the assignment superbly, another reminder that no spot is guaranteed.
Suddenly, Balde is no longer the automatic pick he once seemed. The comfort of his early breakthrough has gone.
A crossroads, not a dead end
Even so, his profile still matters. That burst down the flank, the ability to attack space, the athleticism to recover – those are not easy to replace. If no offer arrives that convinces both club and player, Balde is expected to stay and embrace the fight.
That would mean earning his place the hard way, not leaning on reputation or past performances. For Barcelona, that scenario might even be ideal: a talented full-back jolted out of his comfort zone, forced to respond.
If Balde hits his true level in training and in games, Flick will struggle to ignore him. The question is no longer whether he has a future at Barcelona.
It is whether this week, under the glare of the market and the pressure of new rivals, becomes the moment he starts to reclaim it.
