The club is currently in discussions with Alejandro Balde's agent, Jorge Mendes, aiming for a summer transfer of the Barcelona left-back who seeks a new challenge beyond the Spotify Camp Nou.

Despite a tough 2-0 loss to Hull City in their opening league match, Manchester United remains active in the transfer market. Alongside progressing a £70 million deal for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, the club is focusing on shoring up the left-back position. Michael Carrick’s squad showed vulnerabilities, highlighted by a costly error from veteran Luke Shaw, signaling a need for urgent defensive improvements before the transfer window closes.
Initially, United had targeted Newcastle's Lewis Hall to resolve their defensive issues, but the Magpies are unwilling to part with the former Chelsea player. This obstacle pushed the Red Devils to turn their attention toward Catalonia, where Balde has surfaced as a leading option, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Reports from Jijantes reveal that Balde has concluded his time at Barcelona is over. The La Masia academy graduate, integral to the club’s recent title win, feels uncertain about his long-term role under coach Hansi Flick. Last season, Balde started 21 league matches but missed 10 games due to hamstring and muscle injuries. With Joao Cancelo returning to Barcelona on a free transfer, competition for the left-back spot has intensified.
As a result, Jorge Mendes is actively pursuing a move for Balde, engaging in early talks with Manchester United to facilitate the transfer.
Hansi Flick Comments on Balde's Future
“He’s a player of immense quality, and it’s important to know if he’s confident he can compete in his position. That’s what I want to see from all my players. Every day I observe what they do, their level, whether they demonstrate that they’re at the level to play,” said Flick ahead of Barcelona's game against Elche.
The Barcelona coach emphasized team unity over individual concerns during this period of transition, stating, “We have to play as a team; only then will we achieve success. I need everyone to be one hundred percent.”
Transfer Window Remains Uncertain
The situation at Camp Nou is still evolving as the transfer deadline nears. Flick did not dismiss the possibility of further exits, acknowledging significant structural changes within the club. He remarked, “We’re making a lot of changes within the club, so we may have to wait until the transfer window closes. That’s normal. When you decide to bring in new players, you also have to consider how to strengthen the team. The situation has been made very clear to the players, and now we must wait until the end of the market to see what happens.”
