Alejandro Balde's Commitment to Barcelona Amid Transfer Talks
Alejandro Balde has made his stance clear: he wants to stay at Barcelona and fight for his place.
Inside the club, his message has landed at a delicate moment. Barcelona have been weighing up a sale in the final stretch of the window, testing the market and listening to interest. According to Fabrizio Romano, only a “big proposal” from a top club would be enough to move the needle before Deadline Day.
So far, that offer has not arrived.
United circle, but money is tight
Manchester United are among the clubs to have sounded out Barcelona over a deal for Balde. After abandoning their chase of Lewis Hall, who Newcastle United have taken completely off the table, INEOS shifted their search for a left-back elsewhere and the 22-year-old emerged as a serious candidate.
On paper, he fits. Balde already owns significant top-level experience and has featured in the Champions League, the kind of profile United want behind Luke Shaw.
The problem sits in the numbers. Reports indicate United are only in a position to push for a loan at this stage, with their summer midfield rebuild already costing £148 million upfront. A temporary deal, with limited financial upside, is unlikely to tempt Barcelona if the player himself is pushing to remain at Camp Nou.
Barcelona’s hand strengthens
Balde’s stance changes the dynamic. With the defender telling the hierarchy he wants to stay and compete, Barcelona now have more reason to resist anything that falls short of a major bid. If United cannot put serious money on the table, there is little incentive for the Catalan club to weaken their depth on the left.
INEOS, aware of that, have kept other options warm. Racing Santander’s Jorge Salinas and RB Leipzig captain David Raum are also on their shortlist. Both, however, come with their own complications: selling clubs would need time and opportunity to find replacements, and the window is closing fast.
Every day that passes makes a late reshuffle harder to pull off.
New-look United midfield, same full-back problem
While the left-back search drags on, United have at least completed their midfield overhaul. Carlos Baleba was officially unveiled as a United player on Tuesday evening, joining Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans in a revamped engine room for Michael Carrick.
Baleba will not feature immediately after suffering ankle ligament damage in pre-season, but his arrival underlines where United’s money has gone and why a large outlay on a defender is unlikely before the deadline.
For now, the situation is simple. Balde wants Barcelona. Barcelona are open to keeping him. United, constrained by their own spending, are unlikely to test that resolve with the kind of fee that would force a rethink.
Unless a top club lands that “big proposal” in the coming days, Alejandro Balde’s future looks set to stay exactly where he wants it: at Camp Nou.
