Joshua Zirkzee's Potential Move to Juventus: A Tactical Rebuild
Joshua Zirkzee has given the green light. Now it is over to Juventus.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Manchester United forward has provided initial approval for a move to Turin in the summer window, opening the door for the Bianconeri to push ahead with an ambitious reshaping of their attack.
Zirkzee at the heart of Juve’s rebuild
Juventus are working on a loan deal for the Dutch international, with intense negotiations under way with his agent, Kia Joorabchian. The idea is clear: bring in a modern, technically polished forward who can slot straight into Luciano Spalletti’s system.
This is not a sudden whim. New football director Ricky Massara has admired Zirkzee for some time and tried to sign him for Roma in the winter. That move never materialised. The opportunity has returned, this time with Juventus in the front row.
Zirkzee’s profile is well known in Italy. In 2023-24 he produced 12 goals and seven assists for Bologna in Serie A, a breakout campaign that marked him as one of the league’s most intriguing forwards. Since his move to the Premier League, though, he has not found the same rhythm: just 19 starts in 68 league appearances over the last two seasons, a stop-start spell that has stalled his momentum.
Juve believe the solution is to bring him back to a familiar environment and hand him a central role. Spalletti’s football demands a forward who can link play, drop between the lines, and still threaten the box. On paper, Zirkzee fits that description perfectly.
Kolo Muani the other pillar
Zirkzee is only half of the plan.
At the same time, Juventus are prioritising a move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Kolo Muani, with CEO Giovanni Carnevali working to close a €40 million deal, again according to Gazzetta. The vision from the club’s hierarchy is to pair Zirkzee’s finesse with Kolo Muani’s speed and direct running, creating an attack with far more variety and bite than last season.
The urgency is real. An injury to young Italian striker Jeff Ekhator has stripped depth from an already thin frontline and pushed the club into an aggressive stance on the market. Juventus cannot afford to drift through another season relying on makeshift solutions in the final third.
If both moves come off, Spalletti would gain two very different, but complementary, weapons: Zirkzee to knit the game together, Kolo Muani to stretch defences and attack space. For a coach obsessed with structure and automatisms, that blend could be decisive.
Spalletti waits, the clock ticks
All that remains is execution. Spalletti is now waiting for clarity from the board on when these deals can be completed. Pre-season is looming, and the coach wants his main forwards in place as early as possible to bed them into his tactical framework.
The calendar offers no kindness. Juventus open their Serie A campaign away to newly-promoted Frosinone on August 23, a fixture that looks gentle on paper but could quickly become awkward if the squad is still in flux and new signings are scrambling for understanding.
The club’s transfer room is alive with negotiations, numbers, and late-night calls. Zirkzee has said yes. Kolo Muani is within reach. The question now is simple: can Juventus move quickly enough to turn a bold attacking blueprint into a reality before the first whistle of the new season blows?
