Yael Trepy in Intensive Care After Pool Incident

Yael Trepy, the 20-year-old French forward of Serie A side Cagliari, is in intensive care after a serious incident in a swimming pool, the Italian club has confirmed.

In a brief but stark statement, Cagliari announced that Trepy “is currently in intensive care at the hospital in Sassari,” stressing that the club is “in close contact with the medical staff and the player’s family”. The Sardinian club also appealed for calm around the situation, asking that “privacy be respected” and promising further updates when possible.

Italian media reports say Trepy was rescued on Sunday in Porto Cervo, in northern Sardinia, after swallowing a large quantity of water in a swimming pool. Doctors then placed him in a medically induced coma, according to those reports. The club has not disclosed any details about the circumstances of the incident.

The news lands just days after Trepy’s most recent appearance for Cagliari. He started in Friday’s 1-0 Coppa Italia win over Arezzo, playing 54 minutes before being substituted. Last season, the young forward made eight Serie A appearances, scoring once, as he continued his progression from the club’s academy into the first team.

Trepy joined Cagliari’s youth ranks in 2022 from Paris-based side Union Sportive Creteil, a move that marked a significant step in his early career. Now his future lies in the hands of doctors in Sassari, while his club and family wait for the next medical bulletin.
