Tottenham's Pursuit of Victor Osimhen: A Costly Gamble
Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a clear route to Victor Osimhen this summer. It comes with a price, and not just the cheque they would need to write.
According to TEAMtalk, Spurs have been offered the chance to sign the Nigerian international as they search for a genuine, ready-made No 9 before the new season. The door is open. The question is whether they dare walk through it.
A marquee striker within reach – at a cost
Osimhen, now 27, has long been viewed as one of Europe’s most ruthless centre-forwards. Since swapping Napoli for Galatasaray in 2024 – first on loan, then permanently – he has done nothing to soften that reputation.
Fifteen goals and five assists from just 19 Turkish Super Lig starts tell the story. He arrived in Istanbul with pressure on his shoulders and simply carried on scoring, keeping his name on the lists of recruitment teams across the continent.
Tottenham are among those watching. The club have been offered the opportunity to bring him to north London, a move that would instantly reshape their attack and hand them the penalty-box focal point they have lacked since Harry Kane’s departure.
Yet there is hesitation. Spurs are still to decide whether to turn that opportunity into a formal bid.
Solanke or Richarlison: one must go
The transfer itself would be complex. The fee alone would test Tottenham’s finances, but the real squeeze lies in the wage structure and squad balance.
Osimhen’s reported salary of €288,000 per week after tax would make him the highest earner at the club. To make that remotely workable, Spurs would need to clear space both on the pitch and on the payroll.
That is where Dominic Solanke and Richarlison come in.
Tottenham would have to move on one of the two before they could realistically push for Osimhen. It is not a tactical luxury issue; it is a financial and structural one. Too many centre-forwards, too much money tied up in the same area of the pitch, and a wage bill that needs trimming before it can be stretched again.
Only when one leaves, the path to Osimhen opens.

Osimhen’s stance adds another layer. Reports indicate he remains determined to play in the Premier League during the peak years of his career. That ambition could tilt the scales in Tottenham’s favour if they decide to act.
A striker in his prime, proven in Italy and now in Turkey, eager for England. A club searching for a headline centre-forward to lead the next phase under their current project. On paper, it fits.
But this is not a fantasy-football move. Spurs must reduce the squad, cut the wage bill, and then commit to a contract that would reset their internal salary hierarchy. It is a statement signing with all the tension that brings behind the scenes.
For now, everything hangs on a first step: the exit of Solanke or Richarlison. Only then will Tottenham discover whether their interest in Victor Osimhen is a serious pursuit or just another summer story that never leaves the page.
