Shea Charles has chosen Craven Cottage as the place where his Premier League story truly begins.
The 20-year-old midfielder has swapped Southampton for Fulham, signing a five-year deal with an option for a further year, and arrives in west London talking like a player ready to step onto a bigger stage rather than simply make up the numbers.
"I hope to really kickstart my Premier League career here," he told FFCtv, the words carrying the urgency of someone who has already had a taste of the top flight and wants more of it, on his own terms this time.
From near-miss to new beginning
Charles leaves behind a Southampton side that came agonisingly close to an immediate return to the Premier League under Tonda Eckert. He featured 38 times in all competitions last season, scoring six goals and adding two assists, a solid return for a young midfielder asked to shoulder serious responsibility in a promotion chase.
That campaign ended in frustration rather than celebration. Now comes a clean break.

"I am buzzing to finally get it over the line," he said. "The club has got a really good foundation from the bottom to the top.
"It is a great club with a really good vision, the manager explained that to me. It is a massive privilege to be here.
"I hope to really kickstart my Premier League career here, at such a good club as well. It is perfect for me and hopefully perfect for the fans as well."
That repeated phrase – “kickstart my Premier League career” – matters. Charles has already appeared in the division, but this move feels like a reset, a chance to step into a team where his trajectory can run alongside a club that has quietly stabilised itself in the top flight.
Under Alvaro Arbeloa, Fulham are trying to evolve without losing the core identity that has kept them competitive: technical quality, tactical discipline, and a squad built as much on smart recruitment as big-name noise. Charles fits that profile neatly.
