Reiss Nelson's Future: Arsenal and West Ham Talks
Arsenal and West Ham are in active talks over a move for Reiss Nelson, with the winger’s Emirates future hanging by a thread as he enters the final year of his contract.
The 26-year-old has spent the last two seasons rebuilding his career away from north London, first at Brentford and then at Fulham, but his return to Arsenal this summer has not shifted Mikel Arteta’s stance. He is not part of the manager’s plans for the coming campaign, and the club are now working to move him on.
West Ham push for promotion firepower
West Ham have stepped forward, sounding out Arsenal over Nelson’s availability as they look to add attacking quality for a promotion push in the Championship. The Hammers want proven pedigree at this level; Nelson offers exactly that blend of top-flight experience and untapped potential.
Arsenal, for their part, are understood to be open to the move and have given encouragement to West Ham as negotiations continue over the structure of a possible deal. A permanent transfer is the preferred outcome in north London.
The key question sits with the player. Nelson has yet to decide whether he is willing to drop into the Championship at this stage of his career, and personal terms with West Ham have not been discussed. He is still weighing up his options.
Benfica among rival suitors
Interest in Nelson is not limited to England. Several clubs have registered their admiration this summer, including Benfica, now managed by Marco Silva. The Portuguese coach knows Nelson well, having brought him to Fulham two seasons ago, and that existing relationship gives Benfica a natural pull.
Arsenal would like a clean sale, but the market may dictate compromise. There have been enquiries about another loan, and if the club sanction a temporary move they hold an option to extend Nelson’s contract by 12 months to protect his value. That clause gives Arsenal a degree of control, even if a permanent buyer does not immediately emerge.
Jesus and Vieira also available
Nelson is not the only player who could depart before the window closes. Arsenal are also open to selling Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira as they reshape the squad.
The Gunners want up to £20million for Jesus, who has been linked with Napoli. At this stage, though, there has been no formal approach from the Italian side, despite the noise around the Brazilian’s future.
Vieira, another on the fringes, is available as Arsenal look to trim numbers and raise funds, while young goalkeeper Tommy Setford is being lined up for a loan move to secure regular first-team football this season.
Arsenal’s message is clear: the squad is evolving, and established names are no longer guaranteed a place in the project. For Reiss Nelson, the next decision could define the direction of his career.
