Nottingham Forest Pursue Feyenoord's Gjivairo Read
Nottingham Forest have made their move for highly rated Feyenoord right-back Gjivairo Read, lodging a €17.5m (£14.9m) offer that has already been knocked back by the Dutch club.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported that the opening bid was rejected, but the story is far from over. Forest are expected to come back with an improved proposal as they push to land one of the most talked-about young fullbacks in Europe.
Forest push, Feyenoord hold firm
At 20, Read has already become a key figure at Feyenoord, racking up 54 senior appearances and drawing admiring glances from across the continent. His emergence has inevitably attracted Premier League attention, with Forest now the first to put serious money on the table.
Feyenoord, though, are in no rush to sell on the cheap. Dutch outlet Voetbal International, via journalist Martijn Krabbendam, has indicated that an offer in the region of €25m (£21.3m) would change the tone of negotiations and bring any serious suitor into the room.
So far, Forest are leading the chase. But they are not alone in the shadows.
Liverpool’s dilemma at right-back
Read has been repeatedly linked with Liverpool, where the right-back position sits under a harsh spotlight. The club’s interest has been widely reported, even as the recruitment team weighs up how aggressively to move in a summer where every pound matters.
Andoni Iraola is set to run the rule over Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong in pre-season, with preparations beginning around July 13. The new head coach may want a close look at the Northern Irishman and the Dutchman before deciding whether he needs another specialist in that role.
On paper, the pair could cover the position. In reality, their recent durability issues make that a gamble for a club with Liverpool’s ambitions. Two talented players, but too many question marks over how often they will both be available across a long, unforgiving campaign.
One possible alternative, Brentford’s Michael Kayode, is no longer on the market after signing a long-term deal. That avenue has closed. The options are thinning.

Read’s own fitness record is not spotless. He missed time with a hamstring problem in the 2025/26 season. For a 19-year-old still growing into his frame, that kind of setback is hardly unusual, and Feyenoord have trusted him enough to keep him heavily involved. The financial side only sharpens the intrigue. In an era of inflated fees, the numbers being discussed for Read sit in a bracket that feels accessible for Europe’s elite. €25m for a 20-year-old with top-level experience and clear upside is the sort of deal that can look like a bargain three years down the line.
That is precisely why Forest are pushing now. Move early, take the risk, reap the reward.

Around the player, the noise has grown. Manchester City and Bayern Munich have both been linked, adding heavyweight context to Forest’s pursuit and underlining how widely Read’s potential is recognised.
