Neymar's Calf Injury Update Ahead of World Cup
Neymar has picked up a “small injury” to his right calf, but Santos insist there is no reason to panic ahead of Brazil’s World Cup preparations.
Rodrigo Zogaib, Santos’ Head of Medical Services, confirmed the issue after the club’s defeat to Coritiba in the Brasileirão last Sunday. The No. 10 felt discomfort during the match and was later diagnosed with a calf edema.
It is minor, but it is real.
According to Zogaib, the swelling measures just two millimeters and should keep Neymar in treatment for between five and ten days. The timeline is tight, yet the doctor remains confident the forward will join the national team “without limitations” when Brazil open their training camp at Granja Comary on the 27th of this month.
The plan at Santos is clear: treat, protect, and deliver him fit to the CBF next week.
Inside the club, the expectation even goes a step further. There is belief Neymar could be ready to play in the Copa Sudamericana clash with Deportivo Cuenca, a sign of how contained the problem is being viewed in Vila Belmiro.
Outside that bubble, the tone is more cautious. Journalist Diogo Dantas, from O Globo, reported that the injury would normally demand a “reasonable amount of time” for recovery and has already stirred concern within Carlo Ancelotti’s coaching staff. With the World Cup countdown ticking, any hint of physical trouble for Brazil’s main star sends a jolt through the national setup.
The calendar does not slow down for anyone. Brazil will face Panama in a friendly at the Maracanã on the 31st, their farewell in front of home fans before flying out. On June 6, already settled in the United States, Ancelotti’s side meet Egypt in their final warm-up before the World Cup debut.
Between now and then, every session, every scan, every report on that right calf will be watched closely. Neymar is expected to arrive in camp ready to train. Brazil will hope that, this time, the story ends there.
