Mason Mount to Miss United’s Clash with Leeds at Croke Park

Manchester United’s smooth pre-season rhythm has hit its first bump. Mason Mount, one of the standout performers of the summer so far, is set to miss Wednesday’s meeting with Leeds at Croke Park after taking a knock to his foot.

The 27-year-old has been central to United’s early preparations, driving games from the number eight role and knitting play together with new signing Andrey Santos stationed just behind him. Across the first three friendlies, Mount looked sharp, busy, and settled, offering a glimpse of how United might line up when the real business begins.

Then came Paris St-Germain in Gothenburg and an early jolt.

Mount was caught on the foot in the opening minutes of Saturday’s draw, a seemingly innocuous challenge that still changed the night. Head coach Michael Carrick moved quickly, withdrawing him before half-time and stressing it was only a precaution. Mount walked unaided to the team coach after the game, no visible limp, no protective boot, no immediate alarm.

The concern has grown since.

It is understood Mount has not trained in the days following the PSG match and is now expected to sit out the trip to Dublin, where United face old rivals Leeds in front of a sizeable crowd at Croke Park. For Carrick, it means reshuffling a midfield that had started to take shape around Mount’s energy and timing from deep.

The Bigger Question

The bigger question hangs over the weekend.

United close their pre-season schedule against Ruben Amorim’s AC Milan in Wroclaw on Saturday, a fixture that was earmarked as a dress rehearsal for the campaign ahead. Whether Mount features there is not yet known, leaving United to wait and watch as one of their key midfield pieces nurses an untimely knock just as the season edges into view.
