Martin Sherif Charged by FA Over Betting Breaches

Everton forward Martin Sherif has been charged by the Football Association over alleged breaches of betting regulations spanning a 15‑month period.

The 20-year-old is accused of placing 61 bets on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026.

In a statement, the FA said: “Martin Sherif of Everton FC has been charged with breaching the FA's betting rules. It's alleged that the player breached FA Rule E1.2 in respect of 61 bets placed on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026. Martin Sherif has until Monday 17 August to provide a response.”

He must respond to the charge by Monday, 17 August.

A Liberia-born forward, Sherif has been on Everton’s books since 2019, when he joined the club’s youth system, and he stepped up to train with the first team in early 2025. His senior pathway has largely run through League One loans.

Last summer he moved to Rotherham United, where he scored twice in 10 games before injuries cut that spell short and prompted Everton to recall him in December.

Once fit, he headed back out in February, this time to Port Vale for the rest of the campaign. He again found the net twice, this time across 17 League One appearances, as Vale slipped to relegation.

Now, instead of focusing solely on forcing his way into Everton’s plans, Sherif faces a very different battle: clearing his name under the FA’s betting code.
