Manchester United Offer Mason Mount to AC Milan
Manchester United’s midfield rebuild is starting to bite. The club are pushing hard to reshape the centre of the pitch this summer, and one of last year’s headline arrivals is now being pushed towards the exit.
According to reports in Italy, United have offered Mason Mount to AC Milan in a deal worth around €25 million (£21.5m), with Ruben Amorim giving his approval for talks to begin.
United, who have already struck a deal to bring Ederson Silva in from Atalanta, are targeting at least one more midfielder, with a move for Matheus Fernandes still alive despite competition from Tottenham Hotspur. To make that possible, they need sales. Big ones.
The original plan was to cash in on Manuel Ugarte, but that route has been blocked by the serious knee injury he suffered at the World Cup. With that option gone, attention has turned to Mount.
Signed from Chelsea with high expectations, the 25-year-old has endured a stop-start spell at Old Trafford, hampered by injuries and unable to climb back up the pecking order under Michael Carrick. Now, with United under pressure to balance the books and refresh the squad, his name has been pushed towards Milan.
Amorim gives green light to Mount pursuit
Milan Press report that Mount has been formally proposed to AC Milan, with the Serie A club alerted to his availability and price. Their line is clear: Amorim, now building what is being described as a “new Milan” for the coming season, has given the green light to explore a deal.
“As gathered by the editorial team of MilanPress.it, one of the names proposed to Milan in recent hours is that of Mason Mount, Manchester United midfielder born in 1999,” the outlet reported on X, before adding that an “exchange of information” is already under way and that the market valuation sits at around €25m.
The suggestion from Italy is that Amorim’s familiarity with Mount from Old Trafford – and his desire for “big signings” mixed with opportunistic moves – has opened the door to a negotiation that would have seemed unlikely when the England international first arrived at United.
For United, the logic is brutal but simple: Mount is saleable, his status in the squad is no longer untouchable, and funds are needed quickly if the club are to land their remaining midfield targets.
Diallo off limits as Carrick makes stance clear
While Mount’s future hangs in the balance, another United attacker linked with Milan is going nowhere.
Amad Diallo, one of the standout performers under Amorim’s reign at Old Trafford, has also been mentioned in Italian reports as a possible target for the Rossoneri. His form and versatility have naturally drawn admiring glances, and his name has surfaced repeatedly in speculation about Milan’s attacking options.
That talk has been shut down in no uncertain terms.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano underlined United’s position: “There have been reports from Italy suggesting he could move to AC Milan, with various stories linking him to a transfer away from Manchester United. Manchester United’s position is very clear. Amad Diallo is not for sale this summer.”
Romano went on to stress that Carrick has been firm in internal discussions.
“Michael Carrick has made his decision known to the club, and Manchester United fully expect Amad Diallo to remain part of their plans for the new season. So if you continue to see speculation linking Amad Diallo with Milan or other clubs, Manchester United’s stance has not changed. They want him to stay at the club.”
So the message from Old Trafford is split in two: Mount can go at the right price; Diallo cannot.
As Milan weigh up whether a cut-price Mount fits into Amorim’s new project, United press ahead with a midfield overhaul that is already reshaping the squad’s hierarchy. The only certainty is that by the time the window closes, this Manchester United midfield will look very different – the question is whether Mount will be watching that evolution from Old Trafford or San Siro.
