Liverpool’s winger hunt narrows as Lille dig in over Fernandez-Pardo

Liverpool’s post-Salah rebuild has turned into a high-stakes search down the flanks.

Mohamed Salah has gone, walking away from Anfield on a free after his contract expired. Andy Robertson followed, also on a free, to Tottenham. Ibrahima Konate did the same, sealing a move to Real Madrid. Three pillars of the Klopp era gone for nothing, and a new manager left to reshape the side on the fly.

Andoni Iraola has not hidden what he wants. In his first press conference as Liverpool boss, he made it clear: a winger is a priority. Victor Munoz has already arrived from Osasuna, the Spaniard currently the only new face through the door, but Iraola wants more pace, more one‑v‑one threat, more goals from wide.

He thought he had his headline act lined up.

Leipzig’s Yan Diomande was identified as the main target, the player Liverpool were ready to build a new attacking phase around. A €100 million bid went in. It failed. Real Madrid stepped in, went higher, and now look poised to take the Ivorian to the Bernabeu. One marquee option gone.

Liverpool moved quickly to the next name: Bradley Barcola.

The Paris Saint-Germain winger fits the profile – young, versatile, able to operate off both flanks. But PSG have responded with a statement price: £145 million. Barcola is understood to be reluctant to sign a new deal at the Parc des Princes, yet that figure is designed to scare suitors off rather than invite negotiation. For now, it has done exactly that.

So the focus has sharpened on a different emerging star: Fernandez-Pardo of Lille.

The 21-year-old, who represents Belgium, lit up this summer’s World Cup with his performances, forcing his way into the wider European consciousness. French outlet L’Equipe have linked Liverpool with a move and report that Arsenal and Chelsea are also tracking him. The Premier League’s elite have taken notice.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has gone a step further, reporting that Fernandez-Pardo could leave Lille in this window, with top clubs preparing bids for the winger. That possibility has only added fuel to the speculation around Anfield’s plans.

Lille, though, are standing firm.

Club president Olivier Letang has drawn a hard line in public, insisting that their young star is not for sale and that his future is not on the table.

“The player is under contract until 2029, and his departure is not a topic,” Letang said. “We are counting on him, he knows that, and we have been very clear with him.

“He never had a release clause. Every player I told could leave has left.”

It is a clear message to Liverpool and the rest of Europe’s heavyweights: if you want Fernandez-Pardo, you will have to move mountains, not just money.

For Iraola and Liverpool’s recruitment team, the picture is now brutally simple. Diomande is Madrid-bound. Barcola comes with a price tag that borders on the prohibitive. Fernandez-Pardo is locked down until 2029 with a president publicly refusing to engage.

The market has not closed, but the options at the very top end are tightening fast. Liverpool know they need a new winger. The question is whether they can prise one loose from clubs who no longer feel compelled to sell.
