Jamal Musiala Undergoes Treatment for Neurological Dysfunction

Jamal Musiala has revealed he is undergoing treatment for a “neurological dysfunction” after collapsing for the second time in four days during Bayern Munich’s pre-season schedule.

The 23-year-old midfielder went down six minutes after coming off the bench in Bayern’s 4-2 friendly win at Heidenheim on Tuesday, appearing dazed as medical staff rushed on. He was helped from the pitch, the incident immediately reviving concern after a similar collapse in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig in Munich.

This was no one-off scare. Two games, two worrying scenes.

Later, Musiala chose to address the situation himself, posting a detailed message on Instagram to calm growing fears.

“I've been diagnosed with temporary, brief, but easily treatable absence seizures, which are due to a neurological dysfunction,” he wrote. “These can lead to the recent episodes, like the one against Leipzig or now in Heidenheim. I know they seem scary at first glance - but for me, they're currently just part of my everyday life.

“I'm receiving excellent medical treatment and am very optimistic. FC Bayern and my family and friends are always by my side and supporting me on this journey.”

Inside the club, the issue is no surprise. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed after the Heidenheim match that the situation was known internally and that Musiala would speak publicly when ready.

“We knew about it and we are aware of the situation,” Eberl said. “Jamal will speak out. He's in the dressing room, getting changed and taking a shower.”

For a player whose recent years have already been shaped by physical setbacks, this is another demanding chapter. Musiala missed the first six months of last season after breaking his ankle at the 2025 Club World Cup, only returning in the second half of the campaign. Once fit, he quickly regained his place, starting three of Germany’s four matches at the 2026 World Cup.

Now the focus is different. Not on form, not on selection battles, but on managing a condition he describes as “easily treatable” while staying at the top of the European game.

Bayern know exactly how important he is to their future. The question now is how quickly their midfield cornerstone can turn this latest interruption into just another obstacle overcome, rather than a defining line in his career.
