Jamal Musiala Addresses Health Concerns After Collapses

Jamal Musiala has moved to calm growing fears over his health after twice collapsing on the pitch in the space of four days during Bayern Munich’s pre-season schedule.

The 23-year-old Germany international suffered his latest scare on Tuesday, August 18, in Bayern’s 4-2 win away to Heidenheim. Sent on from the bench, he had barely settled into the game before he appeared disoriented, then slowly sank to the turf.

Teammates and opponents rushed towards him. Medical staff sprinted on. For a few long seconds, the stadium fell into that uneasy hush football knows too well.

Musiala was eventually able to walk off without assistance, but he looked shaken.

It was a scene Bayern had already lived through once that week. Just three days earlier, in a 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig, the midfielder had also appeared unsteady and required help after going down, prompting immediate concern from the club and fans.

At first, many pointed to the summer heat as the likely culprit. When it happened again in cooler conditions, that explanation evaporated. Bayern’s hierarchy knew there was more to it.

After the Heidenheim match, sporting director Max Eberl confirmed the club had already identified an underlying issue and were monitoring it closely. He stressed that Musiala was conscious, had returned to his usual post-match routine, and would address the situation himself.

That message arrived later that night.

Taking to Instagram, Musiala began with the words everyone wanted to read: “First things first — I'm doing well.” He then revealed that specialists had diagnosed him with temporary, brief, and easily treatable absence seizures linked to a neurological dysfunction.

He accepted that, from the outside, the collapses looked frightening. Two on-field episodes in four days will do that. But he was clear about what doctors had told him: no additional health risks had been detected.

With neurological clearance in hand, Musiala has chosen to continue his life as normal and keep playing football.

He described himself as “very optimistic” about the situation and used the statement to thank Bayern Munich, his family, and close friends for their support during an unsettling few days.

For Bayern and Germany, the message was simple but significant: their young star plans to keep going.
