Erling Haaland Set for Arsenal Clash in Community Shield

Erling Haaland will be there. Fit, available, and in the squad for Manchester City’s Community Shield meeting with Arsenal. For City supporters, that is the only line that really cuts through the August haze.

The alarm came briefly on Thursday when Haaland walked out of the latter stages of an open training session. Any flicker of anxiety was quickly stamped out by Enzo Maresca.

“He was ok, he had just a small thing, but he was ok,” the City head coach said, dismissing the scare with a shrug.

Haaland or Marmoush?

His brace in the 3-1 friendly win over Atletico Madrid did more than pad out a pre-season scoreline. It underlined that if Maresca wants intensity from the first whistle, Marmoush is ready to lead the line and press Arsenal’s back four into uncomfortable areas.

Leaving Haaland on the bench in August would not be a drama. It would be the kind of cold, sensible squad management that wins managers seasons, not headlines.

Foden at the Heart, Doku on the Charge

Behind the striker, the picture is clearer. Phil Foden is expected to operate in the No 10 role, the creative hub between the lines, knitting together City’s attacks.

On the flanks, Antoine Semenyo and Jeremy Doku bring speed and direct running, the sort of wide threat that can rip open a game that starts tight and tactical.

Doku, fresh from signing a new contract, looks set to keep his place. He has the confidence, he has the form, and Maresca has little reason to disrupt a front line that already looks sharp.

Rayan Ait-Nouri has turned up the heat at left-back with his recent form. His push for a starting spot could see Josko Gvardiol move inside to partner Ruben Dias, giving City a blend of aggression, composure, and left-footed balance in central defence.

With Gianluigi Donnarumma expected in goal and Matheus Nunes likely to feature in the back line, the shape of City’s Community Shield defence is starting to harden.
