Dominik Szoboszlai Signs Five-Year Deal with Liverpool

Dominik Szoboszlai has tied his prime years to Liverpool, signing a new five-year contract and calling it “maybe my biggest day” in football as he set his sights squarely on the Champions League.

The Hungary captain, who had entered the final two years of his previous agreement, is now committed to Anfield until the age of 30. Talks had been running for months, with Liverpool always confident he wanted to stay, but negotiations accelerated in recent weeks as the club moved to lock down one of their most influential performers.

For Szoboszlai, this was no routine extension.

"It's maybe my biggest day," he told the club’s website. "There are a couple in front of it – probably when I signed for Liverpool the first one and when I got my baby, of course. But in my football career, I can say this is in the top three. Very happy. [I] can't wait to go again and again and again. I'm just happy to be here."

Liverpool’s decision is rooted firmly in performance. Signed from RB Leipzig in 2023 for £60m, Szoboszlai delivered a standout campaign last season, scoring 13 goals, supplying 12 assists and covering a range of roles across midfield and the forward line. His influence carried into the 2024-25 season, when he played a key part in Liverpool’s Premier League title win.

Yet the midfielder insists he is only getting started.

"There's always more to come. I'm never happy," he said. "I'm happy with myself but I think I can do even better. I think that's why I'm sitting here, because that pushed me since I was a kid: that it was never enough. And I'm thinking the same now."

That relentless streak underpins his ambitions. The domestic trophies are not enough; he wants Liverpool back on Europe’s summit.

"I want to set the example. I want to be an example also for everyone, as much as I can," he continued. "When I signed, I said I want to win everything. That didn't change for a little moment either. It stayed the same: I want to win everything that is possible in this country, also let's say the Champions League. I'm ready to go for it."

Liverpool have now secured the commitment of a midfielder entering his peak, one who has already helped bring the title back to Anfield and is openly demanding more. The contract is signed; the message is clear. The next chapter will be judged by whether he can drag this team back to the top of Europe.
