Como moves for Trevoh Chalobah as Chelsea reshuffles defense
Como have moved decisively in their pursuit of Trevoh Chalobah, tabling an improved offer to Chelsea as the defender edges closer to the exit at Stamford Bridge.
The ambitious Serie A club, backed by Cesc Fabregas on the touchline and by Champions League football on the horizon, have lodged a proposal worth €25m in guaranteed fees, with a further €5m in achievable bonuses to take the total package to €30m, according to reports from Fabrizio Romano.
It is a serious offer. And it lands at a time when Chalobah’s Chelsea future has rarely looked more fragile.
Chelsea’s reshuffle opens the door
Chelsea have already lined up his potential replacement. A deal worth around €60m (£52m) has been agreed with Crystal Palace for centre-back Maxence Lacroix, a move that will push Chalobah further down the pecking order in West London.
For a defender who has grown up at the club, fought his way into the first team and ridden out multiple managerial changes, the message is clear: the next phase of Chelsea’s rebuild may not include him.
Chelsea’s situation hardly sweetens the picture. They finished the 2025-26 Premier League season in 10th place and will be absent from European competition next term. For a player in his prime years, the prospect of another season without continental football is a hard sell.
Como’s pull – and Chalobah’s stance
This is where Como sense their chance.
The club, newly energised and with Champions League football to offer, can present a very different stage: a central role in a rising project, European nights, and the cachet of being a cornerstone in a team trying to disrupt Italy’s established order.
Romano reports that Chalobah is keen on the idea of joining Como. Calciomercato.com adds that an agreement in principle over salary is already in place, clearing one of the biggest hurdles in any cross-border deal.
Inter had also been linked with Chalobah earlier in the window, yet it is Como who now look better positioned. Their latest bid underlines intent rather than curiosity.
A career crossroads
For Chelsea, a €30m package for an academy product represents clean profit and more room to manoeuvre in a constantly evolving squad. For Chalobah, it is a crossroads: stay and risk becoming a peripheral figure behind Lacroix and the existing defensive options, or step into a leading role in Serie A with Champions League football attached.
Como have made their move. The numbers are on the table. Chalobah’s willingness is no longer in doubt.
The next decision rests in the Chelsea boardroom – and it will say plenty about how ruthless this new era at Stamford Bridge is prepared to be.
