Ciro Immobile Retires: A Remarkable Career Comes to an End
Ciro Immobile has called time on a remarkable career. At 36, the former Italy and Lazio striker has announced his definitive retirement from football, drawing the curtain after a final spell with Paris FC.
The decision ends the journey of one of Serie A’s deadliest modern forwards, a player whose numbers place him among the most prolific in the league’s history. His deal with Paris FC was due to run until June 2027, but his body no longer matched his instincts. Persistent injuries finally forced him to stop, even though he had still managed to leave a mark in France: 12 games, two goals, two assists last season.
He had arrived in Paris only in January, fresh from a brief, low-key stint with Bologna that brought just six appearances at the start of the campaign. The move looked like a late-career twist, one more challenge for a striker who had never been afraid to pack a suitcase.
Instead, it became the final chapter.
According to “Football Italia”, Immobile struggled to hold back tears as he told his Paris FC team-mates of his decision on Friday. In that dressing room, the numbers were laid out: 656 official matches, 350 goals. A career measured not just in years and clubs, but in nets rippling and arms raised.
His impact with the national team was significant too. For Italy, Immobile scored 17 goals in 57 senior caps and stood on the podium of European football in 2021, lifting the Euro 2020 trophy with the Azzurri. At club level in his homeland, few could live with his consistency in front of goal; he claimed the Serie A capocannoniere crown four times, a mark of sustained dominance rather than a single golden season.
The path to that status was anything but straightforward. Immobile’s story began in the youth ranks of Salernitana before Juventus moved quickly to bring him into their system. From there, his career became a tour of Italian and European football: Siena, Grosseto, Pescara, Genoa, Torino, Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla, Lazio, Besiktas, Bologna and finally Paris FC.

Lazio was where Immobile truly became Immobile. Across eight consecutive seasons from 2016 to 2024, he turned into a symbol of the Roman side, rewriting their record books and etching his name into the club’s history in gold.
