Charlton Athletic Sign Timothy Ouma on Loan

Charlton Athletic have moved to sharpen their midfield with the capture of Kenya international Timothy Ouma on a season-long loan from Slavia Prague, with an option to make the deal permanent.

It is not a speculative punt. Nathan Jones has had him in his sights for a while.

“Timothy is a player that we've monitored for a long, long time, and he comes with a real good pedigree,” the Charlton boss told the club’s official website. “He's an athletic, technical midfield player who has had some good experience, and he'll add real quality to our midfield.”

That “pedigree” has been built step by step across three different European leagues.

Ouma’s journey started in Nairobi, where he broke through at Nairobi City Stars before earning a move to Swedish top-flight side IF Elfsborg in the summer of 2022. Sweden gave him a platform and a spotlight. Across three seasons there, he didn’t just settle into domestic football; he tasted continental competition, clocking up 13 Europa League appearances and learning the rhythm of Thursday nights under the floodlights.

That exposure opened the door to Slavia Prague, one of central Europe’s most demanding stages. Slavia immediately saw value in his versatility and engine, but chose to accelerate his development with a loan spell in Poland at Lech Poznan last season.

It turned into a title-winning move.

At Poznan, Ouma played his part in a side that went all the way, lifting the league championship and adding the feel of a successful dressing room to his growing résumé. League pressure, European minutes, a winners’ medal: it is a strong mix for a 22-year-old now stepping into English football.

For Charlton, this is a calculated addition rather than a box-ticking signing. An athletic, technically secure midfielder who has already navigated the demands of Sweden, the Czech Republic and Poland brings something different to The Valley. The loan structure, with an option to buy, gives the club room to test that blend in the hurly-burly of the English game.

If Ouma adapts quickly, Charlton will not just have filled a gap in midfield. They may have found a long-term heartbeat for Jones’s side.
