Bradley Barcola: World Cup Star in PSG Transfer Battle
Bradley Barcola is lighting up a World Cup group stage and, at the same time, sitting at the heart of one of this summer’s most intriguing transfer battles.
The Paris Saint-Germain winger, fresh from scoring in France’s opening Group I win over Senegal, has become a live target for Liverpool and Arsenal after contract talks in Paris ground to a halt. For once, PSG don’t hold all the cards.
A World Cup shop window for PSG’s reluctant understudy
Barcola forced his way into Didier Deschamps’ 26-man squad on merit. Thirteen goals and seven assists in 49 club appearances last season, a key figure as PSG defended both their Champions League crown and the Ligue 1 title. At 23, he is already one of the standout attacking talents in France, with the ceiling to go far beyond that.
Inside PSG, they know exactly what they have. They rate him as one of the best in the country and a potential world-class winger. But they also know where he stands in Luis Enrique’s hierarchy: behind Khvicha Kvaratskhelia when the biggest nights come around.
For a player of Barcola’s ambition, that matters.
Contract talks ‘completely on standby’
That tension has opened the door. PSG have slapped a €100m (£86m) price tag on Barcola, a figure designed to test just how serious the Premier League’s elite really are. The situation has tilted again with Fabrizio Romano revealing that negotiations over a new deal in Paris have stalled.
“To my understanding at the moment, the negotiations between PSG and Barcola over a new contract are completely, completely on standby,” Romano said on his YouTube channel, stressing that there is no progress on an extension. “PSG and Barcola are not advancing on any deal, and that is why his situation remains one to watch in this summer transfer window.”
For Liverpool and Arsenal, that is the crack in the door they have been waiting for.
Romano is clear: “Bradley Barcola is on Arsenal’s shortlist for sure… but Barcola is also on the list at Liverpool. Liverpool keep a close eye on the situation of Barcola. They like the player, he was on the shortlist in 2025 and remains on the shortlist in 2026. The feeling on this story is that it’s absolutely open at the moment.”
Open, and getting hotter by the week.
Liverpool’s double track: Diomande and Barcola
Liverpool’s recruitment team have not been shy. They have already tested RB Leipzig’s resolve for Yan Diomande with a €100m offer, only to be told the price is an eye-watering €148m (£128m). That stance has complicated what was supposed to be the club’s primary wide-forward pursuit.
So the spotlight swings to Barcola.
On the Born ‘N Red podcast, Romano lifted the lid on Liverpool’s internal discussions. “Liverpool are maintaining contacts for Diomande AND for Barcola,” he explained. “It’s at completely different stages, because for Diomande they already sent an official bid, they are discussing with Leipzig, talking to the agents. With Barcola it’s an internal feeling I have.”
Inside Anfield, that “internal feeling” is strong.
“Internally at Liverpool they are discussing Barcola every single week, it’s a player they appreciate, a player they wanted already in summer 2025, but it wasn’t possible. So, they love Barcola!”
Reports in France go even further, suggesting Barcola himself is “thrilled” by the prospect of moving to Anfield. For a club that must think beyond Mohamed Salah and needs competition for Cody Gakpo, the fit is obvious. Liverpool have already spent €40m (£34.5m) on Spanish winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna, but the plan has always been for another major attacking piece to reshape the frontline.
If Diomande proves too expensive, that second piece might just be Barcola.
Arsenal enter the race
Liverpool, though, are not alone. Arsenal have moved from admiration to action.
Mikel Arteta’s side have placed Barcola on their winger shortlist and, according to reports, have prepared an opening bid of around €80m (£69m). It falls short of PSG’s €100m demand but signals intent and tests just how rigid the French champions will be with a player who has yet to commit to a new deal.
Romano summed it up bluntly: “Let’s see what happens with Liverpool, with Arsenal, and eventually with more clubs.” The market around Barcola is forming in real time, driven by the stalled contract, a soaring reputation, and the knowledge that elite wide players at 23, with Champions League pedigree, rarely come available.
A decision that could shape two attacks
PSG still hold the registration and the price tag. They can dig in, keep a player they admire and hope World Cup form pushes him to sign fresh terms. Or they can cash in at peak value and trust Kvaratskhelia and the rest of their attacking arsenal to carry the load.
Liverpool and Arsenal, meanwhile, face a different calculation. Do they push towards the €100m mark for Barcola, or walk away and risk watching a potential decade-long winger for a rival?
For Barcola, one choice looms larger than all the noise: remain a luxury option in Paris, or step into a starring role in England, at a club ready to build an attack with his name inked into the team sheet.
