Bournemouth Sign Antonio Silva from Benfica for £21.4m

Bournemouth have made a powerful move in the transfer market, completing the signing of Portugal international centre-back Antonio Silva from Benfica in a deal worth £21.4m, with a further £4.3m tied to performance-related add-ons.

For a club reshaping its defence after the summer departure of Marcos Senesi, this is not just a replacement. It is a declaration of intent.

Silva, only 22, arrives with the kind of résumé that usually belongs to a far older player. He has already played 237 games for Benfica, anchored a title-winning back line, and collected six trophies across club and country. Now his next chapter starts on the south coast.

Bournemouth’s recruitment team had been clear about what they wanted this summer: a tall, strong, ball-playing centre-back who could step into Senesi’s role on the left side of defence. Silva fits that profile almost perfectly. Comfortable in possession, aggressive in duels and used to the demands of European competition, he brings a blend of composure and edge that Premier League managers crave.

The Cherries also view him as a proven winner, someone whose standards have been forged at a club where second best is never enough and whose international experience has already taken him deep into major tournaments.
