Barcelona Unveils New Era at Joan Gamper Night
FC Barcelona rolled out their new-look squad under the lights of the Spotify Camp Nou, turning the 61st Joan Gamper Trophy into far more than a pre-season friendly. Before a ball was kicked against Al Ahly, the stadium became a stage for introductions, reunions and a few raw, human moments.
New faces, old rivalry
One by one, the full first-team squad and a cluster of La Masia prospects who have trained with the seniors this summer walked onto the pitch, soaking in the applause. The noise rose a notch for the three marquee arrivals: Rodri, Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi.
Rodri drew the loudest roar. The playmaker’s decision to choose Barça over Real Madrid added an extra edge to the welcome. Supporters made it clear they understood the significance of that choice, greeting him as the first great statement signing of the club’s next chapter.
Flick’s first Camp Nou address
Then came Hansi Flick. Though this was his third squad presentation as Barça coach, it was his first at a full Spotify Camp Nou, and his most personal.
He stepped up to the microphone and spoke in Catalan, immediately tightening the bond with the stands. Flick did not start with tactics or titles. He started with grief and gratitude.
"I'm very happy to be here. When I lost my father, I received incredible support from the Barça family. You were there for my family. From the bottom of my heart, thank you very much."
The stadium responded with a long ovation, the kind usually reserved for goals or trophies. Only after that did Flick turn to football and set the tone for the season ahead.
"We have a great team thanks to Deco and Laporta. We're ready to fight for every trophy. We need all the Barça fans. Together we're stronger. Visca el Barça i Visca Catalunya."
It was a clear message: the rebuild is not quiet, and it is not cautious.
Raphinha steps up as captain
If Flick framed the club’s ambition, Raphinha gave it a voice from inside the dressing room. The Brazilian, serving as provisional first captain, addressed the supporters for the first time in his new role.
He used that platform to look after one of their own. Before anything else, he spoke about injured teammate Roony Bardghji.
"Good afternoon, Cules. I want to wish Roony a speedy recovery. He's going through a difficult time. He's a spectacular kid and a great player. He can count on us for whatever he needs," he said.
The message underlined the squad’s unity at a time of change. Then Raphinha turned to the champions in their midst, acknowledging the Barcelona players who have just come back from winning the World Cup with Spain.
"I want to congratulate the world champions. They've done a spectacular job. Be proud. You'll be written into the history of world football."
The Camp Nou responded again, this time to the reminder that Barça shirts had just lifted the biggest prize of all.
A shirt, a standard, a promise
Raphinha closed by looking straight at the future: the new signings beside him and the responsibility that comes with the crest on their chests.
"Wearing this shirt is a huge responsibility, but it's one of the most beautiful things I've experienced in my life. It will be the same for the new signings. We'll be available to help them and make them feel at home."
On a night meant to present a squad, Barcelona ended up presenting something else: a clear sense of who they want to be. The question now is simple — can this group turn those words, and that emotion, into trophies when the real season begins?
