Arsenal Offers Myles Lewis-Skelly to Manchester United for Left-Back Position

Manchester United’s search for a new left-back has taken a sharp twist, with Myles Lewis-Skelly offered to the club as Arsenal look to balance the books after their £75m outlay on Bruno Guimarães.

The 19-year-old, a Premier League winner under Mikel Arteta last season, has been floated to United as a serious option on the left side of defence. Chelsea have also been alerted to his potential availability, but there is no indication yet that the west London club are ready to act.

Arsenal’s stance is clear: they want to recoup a significant portion of the Guimarães fee, and Lewis-Skelly is one of the assets who could do exactly that. Despite his reputation and title-winning medal, his role last season was more supporting than starring. He made only five league starts, with 36 appearances in all competitions, and signed a five-year contract just last summer.

Even so, the price being discussed is not small. Lewis-Skelly is understood to be valued at around £45m – a figure that drops neatly into the financial pattern of United’s summer so far.

At Old Trafford, the numbers already tell a story. Youri Tielemans has arrived from Aston Villa for £35m, while Andrey Santos joined from Chelsea for £48m plus £2m in add-ons. A £45m move for a young, homegrown, versatile left-back would be consistent with that level of spending, not a wild outlier.

United, though, are not short of options in the position they are trying to solve. Newcastle’s Lewis Hall remains their prime target at left-back. The 21-year-old England international fits the profile United have been chasing: young, technically secure, and already proven in the Premier League.

But Newcastle are under strain. After losing Guimarães to Arsenal, Sandro Tonali to Tottenham and Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, new head coach Matthias Jaissle is drawing a line. Hall, in his view, cannot be the next to go. That resistance has complicated United’s pursuit and opened the door for alternatives like Lewis-Skelly to be pushed to the front of the conversation.

United’s recruitment team are also casting their eye abroad. David Raum, the 28-year-old left-back at RB Leipzig, is another name under assessment. More experienced, more established, and a different type of signing entirely, Raum represents the safer, plug-and-play option compared with the developmental upside of Lewis-Skelly or Hall.

So United stand at a familiar crossroads. A promising teenager offered from a domestic rival. A primary target whose club are digging in. A seasoned Bundesliga full-back on the list. The market is moving around them; the question now is whether they lean into youth and potential, or pay for certainty on the flank that has quietly become one of the defining issues of their summer.
