Alex Scott Rejects Bournemouth Deal: Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United Interested
Alex Scott has rejected a new Bournemouth contract, sharpening the focus of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United on one of the Premier League’s most coveted young midfielders.
Bournemouth have put several improved offers in front of the 20-year-old since talks began towards the end of last season. Each time, the answer has effectively been the same: not now.
Scott has two years left on his current deal, which keeps the Cherries in a position of strength. They have already rebuffed enquiries from all three Premier League giants and have no desire to cash in, even with interest growing across the division.
Inside the club, the stance is firm. Bournemouth expect Scott to be their player next season, whether he signs fresh terms or not. The message is clear: their best talents are not up for grabs.
That policy does not stop with Scott. Junior Kroupi and winger Rayan are also drawing admiring glances from elsewhere, yet Bournemouth are treating them the same way – as central pillars of a squad preparing for a first European campaign.
Big clubs circling a rising star
The queue for Scott is hardly a surprise. Arsenal, Chelsea and United are understood to be at the front of the line, with other clubs monitoring the situation.
Scott travelled with the England squad to the United States ahead of the World Cup and came close to making the final tournament cut. Thomas Tuchel has already said he was unlucky to miss out, praise underpinned by a standout Premier League season.
His numbers back that up. Among top-flight midfielders, Scott ranks highly in defensive metrics – interceptions, duels, recoveries – but his game is not built on destruction alone.
They call him the “Guernsey Grealish” for a reason. He glides through challenges, carries the ball under pressure and picks his moments to drive into space. His match-winning goal at the Emirates in April, slaloming through Arsenal before deciding the game, felt like a statement to exactly the clubs now chasing him.
This is why, with £116m man Elliot Anderson already on the move, Scott is being talked about as the next big midfield domino. When England Under-21s won the European Championships, it was Anderson and Scott who ran the Young Lions’ midfield. One has already landed a blockbuster transfer. The other looks destined to follow.
The only question is when.
Rose draws a line
New Bournemouth head coach Marco Rose does not sound like a man preparing to lose his core players.
“I think Alex knows what he has with this club, and it's always about the right moment to do the next step,” Rose said last week, underlining both the player’s ambition and the club’s belief that this is not the time to move.
His warning was pointed. Young players who jump too quickly, too often, can stall. Bournemouth are working hard to show Scott, Kroupi and Rayan that they can grow where they are, with European football on the horizon and regular minutes in what Rose calls “the most competitive and intensive league in the world”.
“So far, it's not a challenge for me,” Rose added. “The first four days, we are in touch and my feeling is that the boys are feeling really good here.”
Kroupi’s surge last season only strengthens that argument. Rose believes “there’s no ceiling” for the forward, and the same applies to Scott. Stay, play, develop. That is Bournemouth’s sales pitch.
But contracts tell their own story. When a player of Scott’s calibre repeatedly turns down new terms with two years left, the power balance begins to shift. For now, Bournemouth are holding their line. The big three are waiting, watching, probing.
