The World Cup has barely slipped into the rear-view mirror and already the Premier League’s transfer market is back to a rolling boil. Contracts are being rejected, medicals ticked off, and recruitment teams are working around the clock.
At the centre of it all, a 20-year-old in Bournemouth colours has just thrown petrol on the summer.
Alex Scott turns down Bournemouth offer
Alex Scott has rejected a new contract at Bournemouth, a decision that will be greeted with a grin by every major club that has circled his name this summer.
The midfielder remains valued at around £80million and the list of admirers reads like a Champions League draw: Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United have all made their interest known.
Bournemouth, for their part, are desperate to keep him. Scott is already tied down until 2028, and the club had hoped to strengthen their position further. Instead, they now face a long month of holding their nerve as the elite close in on one of the most coveted young players in the league.
Chelsea rip up their own rulebook
Chelsea’s recruitment model has been built on youth, sell-on value and long contracts. So their latest consideration raises an eyebrow.
The club are weighing up a move for 32-year-old John Stones, now a free agent. The Athletic report that the experienced centre-back is on a lengthy shortlist at Stamford Bridge, a list that also features Maxence Lacroix.
Chelsea expect to sell heavily and want at least one more defender through the door. Their valuation of Lacroix, though, currently sits below £55million, a figure that may not be enough to get a deal done.
That hasn’t stopped them pushing. BBC Sport say Chelsea have accelerated their interest in Lacroix and already held talks with Crystal Palace over a move. Palace want a minimum of £60million for the centre-back, who is also on the radar of Manchester United and Arsenal.
While the Blues haggle over numbers, they have already moved decisively in the women’s game, snapping up Melvine Malard from Manchester United. The 26-year-old forward leaves Old Trafford for Stamford Bridge in a deal reported at £750,000 after three years in red.
Villa rip up and rebuild
Aston Villa’s summer is being conducted at full throttle. Full-backs, midfielders, forwards – almost every line of the pitch is being retooled.
On the flanks, Villa are working on a deal for Pervis Estupinan from AC Milan as they prepare for life after Lucas Digne. The Frenchman is heading to PSG for £8million after completing his medical yesterday, leaving a gap at left-back that Unai Emery wants filled quickly.

Joao Gomes has arrived from Wolves in a deal worth £38million, according to the BBC, with an initial £34million fee plus £4m in add-ons. It is a clear statement that Villa intend to maintain their upward trajectory rather than reset.
The next task is replacing Morgan Rogers, who is heading the other way. The 23-year-old has completed his medical ahead of a £117million move to Chelsea and agreed a six-year deal, a price tag so steep Arsenal refused to match it despite their strong interest.
Villa’s shortlist to fill the Rogers void is narrowing. The Athletic report that Crysencio Summerville and PSG’s Mbaye are among the leading candidates, with Mbaye represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes. Villa have also held talks over Alejandro Garnacho with Chelsea and Nicolas Jackson, exploring every angle as they try to keep their attacking structure intact.
Roma push for Summerville as United watch on
Roma are not backing down in their pursuit of Crysencio Summerville.
The Italian side have submitted a third official bid for the West Ham winger, worth around £40million plus add-ons, according to Fabrizio Romano. Manchester United have been linked with the Dutchman, but Roma are the ones putting hard cash on the table.
Their persistence has turned Summerville into one of the most intriguing subplots of the window.
Rashford’s United future back in play
Marcus Rashford’s summer has been a loop of uncertainty. Barcelona have already ruled out a permanent deal, sending the England international back to Manchester United with more questions than answers.

“I feel great and ready to go again somewhere to hopefully be No1, so we’ll see, we’ll see what can happen,” he said in Helsinki after playing the second half of United’s 1-0 defeat to Wrexham without conceding.
While one keeper edges towards the door, United’s scouting network has turned its gaze to Serie A. Calciomercato report that the club are tracking Como midfielder Martin Baturina, who produced eight goals and four assists in 34 appearances last season. Tottenham and Aston Villa are also interested, setting up another multi-club chase.
